Parents who have difficulty finding child sitter services for the week of 20 December can now apply to the National Employment Office, ONEM, for temporary unemployment, the Office of Labour Minister Pierre-Yves Dermagne told Belga news agency on Saturday.

The Consultative Committee announced on Friday that kindergarten and primary schools, which were to have closed at noon on 24 December, would now be off from 20 December to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.

Workers who apply for the leave of absence, known as “temporary unemployment for circumstances beyond their control,” will receive an allowance corresponding to 70% of their wage ceiling (fixed at 2,840.84 euros per month) plus an additional 5.74 euros per day paid by ONEM.
