Various computers, including one containing data on vaccinated persons, were stolen on the night of Monday to Tuesday from the Pacheco vaccination centre in Brussels, the Commission communautaire commune (Cocom -Joint Community Commission) said in a press release on Friday.
"Cocom quickly took measures, in collaboration with the police, its information technology teams and the data-protection team, to avoid any possible leaking of citizens’ personal data,” Belga News Agency quotes the bilingual policy institution’s COVID-19 Communication Service as saying.
“As a public administration body, Cocom seeks scrupulously to guarantee respect for the protection of privacy,” the communication service added. “That is why everything has been done to prevent the unauthorized use by anyone of the data accessible through the stolen computers.”
Cocom’s Covid head, Inge Neven, told Belga that one of the stolen computers contained data on vaccinated Brussels residents, but said the risk of data leaks was “limited.”
The police have launched an investigation to find the thief or thieves, whose motives were still unknown up to Friday evening.
