A suspect has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery committed on a woman on Avenue Plasky in Schaerbeek on Friday at about 5:30 PM, according to Audrey Dereymaeker, police spokesperson for Brussels North.

One policeman suffered a head injury during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment, Belga news agency reported. His life is not in danger.

The victim did not need medical assistance.

Following the robbery, the woman gave a description of the suspect, which was transmitted to the patrols on the ground. Police spotted an individual corresponding to her description, who took to his heels on seeing them.

One police officer pursued him on foot while his colleague followed in a vehicle. The pursuing policeman caught up with the suspect on Avenue Diamant.

The man resisted arrest and the policeman fell, hitting his head on the ground. The second policeman arrived at that moment, arrested the man and assisted his colleague, who did not lose consciousness.
