For the third time this summer, Belgian pilots at Ryanair are striking on Monday and Tuesday – a couple of days that were expected to be busy for travellers as they might take advantage of the long holiday weekend.

At Charleroi Airport, 88 flights out of the 340 scheduled on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 August will be cancelled, the airport announced on its website on Thursday. The cancellations affect both arrivals and departures.

Earlier this summer, Belgian Ryanair pilots have gone on strike twice: over the weekends of 15-16 July and 29-30 July. This is their first-weekday action, albeit during the last two days of what for many will be an extended weekend due to Assumption Day on Tuesday.

The pilots' demands are the same as during the previous strikes: they demand wage restoration after taking a pay cut during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as more rest time between flights.

As with the previous two strikes, the strike will only affect Charleroi Airport, as no Ryanair aircraft are based at Zaventem Airport.
