Four Belgian universities feature in top 50 courses globally

Belgium has four universities which are considered among the best in the world for their subjects.

The top 50 courses of the latest QS World University Ranking were revealed on Thursday.

The QS rankings assess the performance of over 16,400 individual university programmes around the world, in 55 academic disciplines and five major faculties.

Rankings are based on criteria such as academic reputation, employer recommendations, the number of citations in scientific publications, productivity and impact indicators and international reach through research partnerships.

In Belgium, courses at KU Leuven, Ghent University, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and UCLouvain have all featured in the prestigious academic list.

45 KU Leuven courses are listed, with five featuring in the top 20 best university courses in their discipline globally: Theology, Psychology, Sports, Dentistry and Pharmacology.

Ghent University's Agriculture and Forestry course ranked eighth in its field while its Veterinary Science programme came 16th.

UCLouvain's Theology and Religious Studies ranked 19th, making it the top French-speaking course in the discipline worldwide. The university's Philosophy course came 40th.

ULB, meanwhile, offers the 45th best Politics and International Studies course globally.

Overall, 71 Belgian courses feature in the top 100 in their academic discipline, ranking the country as the eighth-best place to study in Europe. The top three are the UK with 702 courses, Germany with 225 and the Netherlands with 168.
