A woman 32 years old has been arrested in Ghent as as part of the investigation into the suspicious death of a man.
The public prosecutor's office has confirmed the woman is the ex-girlfriend of the victim.
On Wednesday night, police were informed of a suspicious death in Zilverenbergstraat, in Ghent city centre. A body was found, and the public prosecutor confirmed that it was a 33-year-old man.
"On arrival at the apartment, paramedics found the body of a 33-year-old man," said the public prosecutor. "Further attempts were made to resuscitate him, but unfortunately it was too late. His ex-girlfriend was also at the scene. The 32-year-old woman said she had called for help after an argument escalated."
The man is believed to have died from blows inflicted with a bladed weapon.
After being questioned by the police, the woman was presented to the Ghent examining magistrate. The suspect was then taken into custody on suspicion of homicide.
