The Brussels commune of Woluwe Saint-Lambert has won the European Plaque of Honour prize awarded by the Council of Europe.

This prestigious award recognises the commune’s efforts to promote the European ideal for several years.

“Through this recognition, the Council of Europe underlines the deep attachment of the commune of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert to the values that underpin the European project and its construction: human rights, freedom, equality, democracy, the rule of law, justice, solidarity, rejection of discrimination, racism and anti-Semitism,” the commune said.

The Plaque of Honour, established by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 1955, is the second highest honour bestowed upon municipalities for their European endeavours.
