Internet, phone and television bundles have shot up in price in the last four years, with customers paying "significantly" more now than they did before.

This is according to a study published by the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) on Thursday. Packages that do not include telephone costs have also risen.

Meanwhile, "standalone" internet prices (not part of a package) have either remained stable or declined. This is thanks to a large variety of options on the market. Belgians can choose between seven different providers for this service.

Between 20% to 30% of Belgian customers are affected by price hikes. The BIPT points out that phone network Orange's acquisition of Voo in 2021 has partly triggered price fluctuations. This is because a change in strategy meant that Orange no longer acts as the standard-setter and is more likely to adopt a strategy similar to other commercial brands such as Proximus and Telenet.

Belgium is one of the most expensive countries in Europe for bundle charges.
