The Wallonian Minister-Prime, Elio Di Rupo, has initiated the recognition of the floods in the Liege province as a public natural disaster, providing financial assistance to those affected.

The decision was taken in light of significant rainfall on 17 and 18 May, and subsequent flooding.

“This will relieve the hardest-hit municipalities from additional administrative procedures. However, other municipalities still have the opportunity to apply for recognition following standard procedures,” a statement by Elio Di Rupo indicated.
