Rail traffic has come to a complete standstill on Monday between Antwerp and Mechelen after an accident near Kontich-Lint station, said rail network operator Infrabel.
National rail operator SNCB has set up a replacement shuttle bus service.
Infrabel was unable to estimate how long the disruption would last, but hopes to be able to quickly reopen at least two of the four tracks at the scene of the accident.
Passengers travelling between Antwerp and Mechelen are advised to take a diversion via Sint-Niklaas, Puers-Saint-Amand or Leuven. Those from the train involved in the collision will be evacuated by bus.
