Bars, cafés and restaurants in Charleroi are to benefit this summer from new measures passed by the city council that ease certain restrictions.

These establishments will now be allowed to set up terraces in areas where that was not previously permitted. There will also be some tolerance for daytime noise, particularly during festive events, according to an updated police regulation adopted by the Charleroi City Council this week.

The changes are aimed at providing support for the hospitality sector and simplifying specific administrative procedures.

Where terraces are concerned, temporary permits allowing their installation in areas not adjacent to the façades of the establishments concerned will be valid until September.

While adapting the rules for daytime noise, the city council noted that it must not disrupt public peace and good neighbourliness.

Finally, the previous requirement for hospitality establishments to renew yearly exemptions related to opening hours has been abolished.
