An 81-year-old Belgian man died while on holiday on the island of Sardinia in Italy on Monday.
According to Italian news agency Ansa, the man fell ill while swimming and lost consciousness this morning at the beach of La Caletta, in Siniscola, on the east coast of Sardinia.
The man's body was spotted floating by hundreds of people on the beach.
Immediate help was given by those who entered the sea and transported him back to the shore.
The emergency services swiftly arrived on the scene, but there was nothing they could do.
