A small gas canister exploded on the first floor of a building on Milisstraat in Antwerp on Saturday morning, police confirmed.

The blast shattered a window, debris from which fell onto a parked vehicle. Another car suffered window damage as a result.

The resident suffered no injuries, but cannot return to their flat as it is now uninhabitable. There was no damage to the rest of the building, however.

It is not yet clear why the gas canister – which was used to refill lighters – exploded.
