Intensified HGV checks at Luxembourg border

Roadside police conducted significant highway checks specifically targeting heavy goods vehicles on the E411 near the border with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on Thursday.

The operation was carried out by Luxembourg police and several other services.

About sixty individuals participated in the extensive, multidisciplinary checks which specifically targeted heavy vehicles on the E411 moving towards Luxembourg. “Experienced motorcyclists versed in these types of checks selected heavy goods vehicles from the traffic and redirected them towards the control point,” Kevin François, Deputy Director of Operations at the road police central control, explained.

Upon being directed to the parking spaces at the border checkpoints, the lorries underwent extensive inspections. Everything is checked, the tachograph, the on-board documents, loading, social legislation, taxes, François said.

Various teams joined the Road Police and various branches of the Federal Police in this operation, including services such as the local Arlon-Habay-Attert-Martelange police, customs, civil protection units, Mobility Department, and Luxembourg partner services.

The operation was among activities marking the 80th anniversary of Benelux cooperation.

Similar checks were carried out on the E19 at Minderhout in collaboration with Dutch partner services. The checks continued into the afternoon, with results expected to be announced by Friday, Federal Police reported on Thursday afternoon.
