Four men arrested with 224 kg of ketamine remain in custody

Four men placed under arrest after being caught with 224 kilogrammes of ketamine were remanded into custody by the Dendermonde Council Chamber on Friday.

The men were arrested after federal highway police conducted a routine check in a parking lot along the E17 in Waasmunster, East Flanders, at around 2:00 a.m. last Saturday.

According to the public prosecutor, the officers saw men transferring boxes between several vehicles with Dutch and British licence plates onto a trailer. The vehicles, boxes, bottles, and bags found at the scene were seized by the police.

The suspects – two Dutchmen aged 37 and 28, a 30-year-old Belgian, and a 35-year-old Uzbek – were immediately detained.

Lab tests confirmed the presence of 224 kilogrammes of ketamine, an anaesthetic also used to treat depression, and 213 litres of a chemical used in drug production.

The four men appeared before a judge in Dendermonde on Sunday and were placed under arrest. They were remanded into custody on Friday.
