The Festival International Nature Namur (FINN) returns to Le Delta cultural centre in the Walloon capital from 11 to 20 October. A total of 56 films will be screened, while the Nature Village at the Citadel will host 25 photo exhibitions.
Visitors will be able to enjoy nature films and photos from around the world, with entries competing in four international categories: photos, amateur films, professional films, and ultra-short films.
Among the 56 selected films, 15 are amateur, 31 are professional, 5 are ultra-short, and 3 are out of competition.
“Seven awards will be given to the most remarkable of the 15 amateur films, chosen from 960 entries,” festival president Tanguy Dumortier said on Thursday.
“We have also received 1,884 professional films from 67 countries, a great recognition for the FINN, which is among the top five European festivals of its kind,” he added.
The opening gala will be hosted by RTBF host Adrien Joveneau on Friday 11 October. The film Bambi, narrated by French singer/songwriter Mylène Farmer, will premiere in a family screening two days later.
The closing evening will feature a performance by les Chanteurs d’oiseaux, naturalists who perform striking birdsong imitations.
Village Nature will return to Terra Nova Visitor Centre at the Citadel, expanding into new spaces. The three rooms of Terra Nova will feature different African themes: East Africa (savannah), West Africa (Sahel), and Night-time Africa (black-and-white photos).
Outdoor exhibitions will be open to the public from 11 October. The Récup’Art animal art trail will also be on display in the gardens.
The best of the 36,000 photos received in the competition will be organised into six themes.
