A collection of 74 works from the gallery of Françoise Mayer and her husband Marc Sohier will be auctioned in Paris on 4 December, Sotheby’s announced this week.

Françoise Mayer and Marc Sohier were among the first to highlight the avant-garde movement in Brussels. They ran a gallery on Rue du Monastère in Ixelles from 1966 to 1975.

Sotheby’s described the collection as uniquely cohesive, featuring abstract art, American abstract expressionism, spatialism, and kinetic art. "The collection of Françoise Mayer and Marc Sohier is a tribute to form, light, and movement," the auction house stated.

Notable pieces include Concetto Spaziale by Lucio Fontana, estimated at between €800,000 and €1,200,000, Polychrome Six by Alexander Calder (€300,000 – €500,000), and Homage to the Square: ‘Despite' by Josef Albers (€500,000 – €700,000).

The works will be exhibited in Brussels from 18 to 22 November before moving to Milan and then Paris.
