The unemployment rate in Brussels remained stable in November at 14.7%, increasing by just 0.33% since October.
There are now a total of 92,011 jobseekers in the capital region, according to registration figures from the regional employment office Actiris.
The number of jobseekers in Brussels has increased by 2,076 compared to the same time last year. The unemployment rate is the percentage of the labour force (people of working age who either work or seek work) who are unemployed.
In November, there were 8,536 new entrants into unemployment, while 8,960 exited, resulting in a monthly decrease of 424 jobseekers (-0.5%). Of the 92,011 jobseekers, 48% are women and 52% are men.
There was a 0.5% increase (259 people) in the number of jobseekers receiving benefits and a 2.0% decrease (144 people) in the number of young people in professional integration internships. Other jobseekers increased by 5.9% (1,961 people).
Out of the total 92,011 jobseekers, 17,460 (19.0%) are registered with the CPAS, representing a yearly increase of 19.2%.
Jobseekers registered for less than a year decreased by 0.7% (251 people), while those searching for 1 to 2 years increased by 10.8% (1,451 people). Meanwhile the hare of long-term jobseekers (over 2 years) in Brussels rose by 2.1%, equating to 876 people.
The largest increase in the number of jobseekers was in the 25-49 age group, which saw a rise of 3.8% (2,154 people. Meanwhile, the number of jobseekers aged under 25 increased by 2.5% (288 people) and the 50 and over category saw a decrease of 1.6% in unemployment (equating to 366 people).
