The production at ArcelorMittal’s steelworks in Ghent has been halted due to the failure of three transformers on Saturday night.
One of the three transformers was operational again by Sunday afternoon, according to spokesperson Jan Cornelis.
The cause of the transformer failures has not yet been identified. “The safety of our employees and machinery has, of course, been guaranteed,” Cornelis stated.
Since then, one transformer has been repaired, enabling production to restart. “We are currently working on the second transformer. We are proceeding step by step, so it is still too early to determine when everything will be fully operational,” added Cornelis.
