New motorcycle registrations reached 28,330 units in 2024, marking an increase of 11.7% compared to 2023, the mobility federation Traxio announced on Wednesday.

This increase is even more significant at 14.8% compared to 2022. Traxio asserts that 2024 was the best year for the motorcycle sector in the past 15 years.

Honda recorded the highest sales in 2024 with 4,159 units. It was followed by Yamaha with 3,425 units, BMW with 3,322 units, Kawasaki with 2,289 units, and Piaggio with 1,572 units.

"Japanese brands in the top five saw a clear increase, while European brands lost market share," noted Traxio.

The second-hand market also performed better than in 2023 with 59,974 units, an increase of 5.9%.

"However, the true benchmark remains 2022, before the mandatory technical inspection for used motorcycles was introduced, which nearly strangled the market," detailed the mobility federation.

Following the introduction of this inspection, a decline of 26.4% was observed, representing a difference of more than 21,000 motorcycles.
