'Tahin Nature' is being recalled due to excessive levels of Alternaria toxins by food manufacturer Lima BV, in coordination with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC).
The recall concerns 500 g glass jars sold between 14 October and 31 October 2024, with lot number E36AESS2324243 and an expiry date of 2 September 2025.
The product was sold at various locations in Belgium, according to FASFC. Customers are advised not to consume the product and to return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds. "Alternaria toxins are substances produced by fungi that grow on plants, such as seeds and grains," explained Hélène Bonte of FASFC. "These toxins can enter food products during production. If a certain level is exceeded, they can be harmful to health."
"The elevated level was reported via the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), indicating that the investigation began in another EU Member State," Bonte added.
