L'Orchestre International du Vetex, the Hide & Seek Festival, and the trio Peixe e Limão were honoured with Belgian Worldwide Music Awards on Tuesday.
These awards for world music were presented on Tuesday evening by industry professionals at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels during Belgian Music Week.
The initiative, now in its second year, celebrates artists and professionals for their contributions to the Belgian world music scene.
The Hide & Seek Festival won in the 'Remarkable Press/Promo Initiative' category. The International Vetex Orchestra, a brass band created 20 years ago, was awarded 'Remarkable Live Performance'. Peixe e Limão, an Italo-Belgian trio blending folk, classical, pop and jazz, received the 'Promising Talent' award.
Dirk Van der Speeten, the driving force behind the small Music Club 't Ey in Belsele, was also honoured.
For music albums, the jury chose the quartet Tamala for its third album 'Diboli', which explores musical traditions from Senegal and Belgium, released under the Muziekpublique label. Fredy Massamba's album 'Trancestral', blending hip-hop, soul, Congolese rumba, and traditional Central African rhythms, won the Public Award for a world music album.
"Belgium is a melting pot of cultures, traditions, and musical genres, giving our country a unique position in the international music landscape," stated the event organiser, Belgian Worldwide Music Network.
