The Walloon Government announced on Thursday it is granting €2.66 million to agricultural training centres, deemed essential for the future of the sector.

These centres will offer 304 courses covering topics from agricultural techniques to management and economics. Approximately 560 practical internships will also allow participants to gain hands-on experience on farms.

"By welcoming individuals motivated by agriculture, this programme helps renew the farming generations, facilitates the transfer of small-scale farms, and contributes to the life of our communities and rural areas," said Regional Agriculture Minister Anne-Catherine Dalcq in a statement.

Agricultural diversification is said to be of prime importance for Dalcq. "Diversified farms are often younger and the farmers better trained," the minister added. She also plans to strengthen aid for the processing and marketing of agricultural products, which is currently suspended until a new solution is found to support farmers more effectively.
