The North Sea’s biggest wind farm, off the coast of Ostend, is ready for use.

The last wind turbine was installed on Sunday morning in the presence of Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten.

"Belgium is world number four in the field of wind energy at sea and we have the determined ambition to remain world leader,” Van der Straeten said.

The wind farm will produce around 10% of all electricity and represents an investment of €1.3 billion.

“A total of 8 TWh is now produced at sea,” Van der Straeten tweeted. TWh stands for terawatt-hour. The energy represents “the consumption of around 2.2 million households,” she added.
