Former Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem, currently serving as Minister of Budget, was awarded the Golden Brick on Friday evening.

Bouwunie, an organisation representing construction SMEs, presents the award annually to a “deserving political figure or organisation with a positive impact on the construction sector.”

Van Peteghem received the award for his efforts to reduce VAT rates for demolition and reconstruction.

“The reduced VAT rate for demolition and reconstruction is vital to making our housing stock more sustainable, keeping housing affordable, and boosting the struggling new-build sector,” said Bouwunie Chairman Jean-Pierre Waeytens.

Several construction companies also received awards. Renovation company Tifre from Sint-Niklaas was named ‘Employer of the Year.’

The ‘Project of the Year’ award went to Holvoet Brothers NV from Ingelmunster.

Modular timber frame builder Mobble from Eeklo was recognised as the ‘Promise of the Year.’

SD Woodworking and Interior Design from Herentals won the ‘Digital Enterprise of the Year’ award, and the award for ‘Sustainable Enterprise’ went to Eco&Zo from Sint-Niklaas.

The Golden Brick is an initiative of Bouwunie in collaboration with brick and roof tile manufacturer Wienerberger and the Federale Verzekering insurance company.
