Bodycams will not be introduced in public transport before 2027, Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder said on Thursday in parliament, in response to a question from Bert Maertens (N-VA).
The new federal coalition agreement promises bodycams for security personnel on railways and train conductors on lines with the most incidents.
Flanders has also expressed its intention to make use of this framework for the staff of transport company De Lijn.
“This is not only important for obtaining evidence during emergencies but also as a deterrent for inspectors and drivers,” De Ridder stated on Thursday.
She added that once the legal framework allows it, a trial period will be required, followed by a tender process.
“Therefore, it is not realistic to expect implementation before 2027, as we aim to put out a tender in 2026,” she concluded.
