Billionaire Elon Musk has once again voiced his support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party just before the German federal elections.
In a message on his social media platform X, he simply wrote “AfD!” surrounded by images of German flags.
The world’s richest man is known for his close association with former US President Donald Trump and has long been a supporter of the AfD, a party controversial for many in German politics.
He appeared via video link at an AfD campaign meeting and referred to Chancellor Olaf Scholz as an idiot. The Social Democratic government leader did not hide his annoyance with the billionaire’s statements.
Elon Musk is not the only American celebrity drawing attention during this election campaign. The AfD’s main candidate, Alice Weidel, recently met with US Vice President J.D. Vance.
Earlier in Munich, Vance stated that there should be no room for “firewalls” in democratic countries, seemingly referring to the exclusion of the AfD by established parties.
