Man felling trees killed at motorway exit in Saint-Ghislain

A man died while maintaining vegetation next to the E19 motorway exit in Saint-Ghislain, Wallonia on Monday morning.

Local police confirmed that the incident occurred to Belga News Agency. The Charleroi labour auditor Sophie Saelens has also been informed.

"The employee was struck by a falling tree he was cutting and died instantly," Saelens told Belga News Agency.

Control services for workplace safety will visit the site to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Saelens will not take part in the exercise.

Depending on the findings, an investigation could be opened to identify any potential safety violations.

Emergency and police services set up a response unit on the right side of the exit ramp towards Saint-Ghislain city centre.
