A third suspect was arrested on Thursday over the shooting at the Clemenceau metro station on 5 February, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's office reported on Friday.

A 19-year-old man was placed under arrest by the investigating judge. Two other suspects had already been arrested and are still in custody.

According to the prosecutor's office, police officers stopped two people on Chaussée de Forest in Saint-Gilles on Thursday afternoon. They recognised one of them as a suspect in the investigation of the Clemenceau shooting. The man was brought before an investigating judge, questioned, and placed under arrest.

The shooting took place at the Clemenceau metro station in Anderlecht, Brussels, on Wednesday 5 February at 06:00.

Surveillance camera footage from the area and videos on social media showed at least two, but possibly more, perpetrators opening fire on other people by the metro station with automatic weapons.

At least some of the perpetrators fled through the metro tunnels, which led to a large-scale search of those tunnels by the special intervention units of the federal police.

The following day, Thursday 6 February, several house searches took place, during which weapons were confiscated and a first suspect was arrested.

Two weeks later, on 20 February, a second series of house searches took place, during which another suspect was arrested and placed under arrest.
