Belgium's Court of Labour has ordered Bpost to pay former CEO Jean Muls €202,500 for 'unreasonable dismissal,' L’Echo daily reported on Tuesday.
However, the court threw out other claims made against the Belgian postal service by its former head.
Muls had initially sought €202,000 for unreasonable dismissal, €310,000 for abusive dismissal, €151,000 for the non-payment of bonuses, and €15,000 for legal costs.
His lawyer, Herman Craeninckx, argued during the hearing that the sums were justified by the “significant personal and financial harm” suffered by the 60-year-old.
In a ruling issued on Friday, the court's French-speaking second chamber highlighted Muls’ role as a whistleblower in exposing fraudulent activities.
It acknowledged the “manifestly unreasonable” nature of his dismissal, but found the other claims to be unfounded.
