Temperatures reached 25°C on 12 April, marking the earliest summer day on record since this weather observation began in 1892, according to the April climate report from the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).
The RMI defines a summer day as one on which the maximum temperature reaches or exceeds 25°C. The previous record for the earliest summer day was set on 13 April 2007.
For most of April, temperatures exceeded the norm for the month. The monthly average was 12.3°C, compared to the normal 10.4°C for April. In Uccle, temperatures ranged from 2°C on 7 April to 25.9°C on 30 April.
The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at -5.3°C on 1 April in Neidigen and on 7 April in Lontzen. The highest maximum was 28.3°C on 30 April in Nechin.
Uccle received 20 mm of rainfall in April, compared to the normal 46.7 mm. Nationwide, precipitation was generally below average, with the RMI noting that "only the Pays de Herve and the region between Gileppe and Warche experienced above-normal rainfall."
There were just four days of thunderstorms in April, well below the normal 8.1 days.
April was notably sunny, with 248 hours of sunshine. This made it the third-sunniest April on record for the current reference period, according to the RMI. The record was set in 2007 with 301 hours.
Additionally, a forest fire broke out in Achouffe on 12 April, resulting in ten hectares being burned.
