The special number 1722 and the online portal 1722.be, dedicated to non-urgent firefighter interventions, were activated on Saturday in anticipation of a potential storm or flooding, according to a statement from the Federal Public Service Interior.

The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms from midday Saturday until 2:00 Sunday for the province of Luxembourg.

Intense thunderstorms are expected, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in a short period, exceeding 20 to 25 mm in six hours. Hail and strong wind gusts are also possible.

The central region of the country may experience rain or showers as well.

In preparation for these weather conditions, the Federal Public Service Interior has activated the special number 1722 to prevent emergency lines from being overwhelmed with non-urgent calls. In cases of storm damage or water damage requiring firefighter assistance, individuals should call 1722. For life-threatening situations, 112 should be contacted.

The Federal Public Service recommends using the online portal 1722.be as a priority for non-urgent interventions. Requests submitted through this platform are sent directly to firefighters, whereas calls to 1722 are first handled by emergency centre operators.
