The number of jobseekers in Flanders went up to 212,400 in April, 2% more than in the corresponding month of 2024, according to figures from VDAB, the Flemish employment agency.
On a monthly basis, however, there was a decrease of about 1,500 jobseekers.
The unemployment rate in the Flemish region stands at 6.7%, compared to 6.6% in April 2024.
More than half (52%) of jobseekers receive unemployment benefits.
Even more (56%) are considered significantly detached from the job market, meaning the VDAB assesses their chances of finding employment within six months as low, due to factors like age, education, language skills and health issues.
