Two cars burnt in Anderlecht

Two vehicles caught fire overnight from Monday to Tuesday in Anderlecht, the Brussels fire brigade reported on Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, but the material damage was extensive. The causes of the fires remained unknown.

The first fire occurred shortly after midnight on Avenue de la Société Nationale. When firefighters arrived, they found a Peugeot with French registration engulfed in flames in the middle of the street. The firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, but the car was severely damaged. Three other vehicles were affected.

“The heat from the fire also damaged the facades of two houses,” fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw explained. “The ground-floor window frames of one house melted, a first-floor window cracked, and the cornice was harmed. In the second house, the ground-floor shutter and a first-floor shutter were damaged.”

About three hours later, shortly after 3:00 a.m., an Audi with a Polish registration plate caught fire on Rue de la Poterie, also in Anderlecht. A nearby tree was damaged as a result.
