The Kunstenfestivaldesarts (KFDA) in Brussels launches its 30th edition on Friday, offering 34 artistic projects from Belgium and around the world over three weeks until 31 May at 25 venues across the capital.

A historic site for the festival since its inception in 1994, the Beursschouwburg in central Brussels will be the vibrant hub of this milestone edition, hosting an open-air cinema and a free nightlife programme.

For the opening weekend, director Carolina Bianchi will present the world premiere of “The Brotherhood”, the second part of her trilogy “Cadela Força” focusing on sexual violence.

Choreographer Nadia Beugré is set to debut a powerful solo at La Raffinerie in tribute to her female ancestors. To commemorate the festival’s 30th anniversary, Friends of Forsythe’s group choreography will be showcased for free at Place de la Bourse on Sunday, 11 May at 17:45.

As the festival continues, American choreographer Trajal Harrell will offer an experimental performance at La Verrière in Anderlecht. Wael Shawky’s video installation will be displayed at the Albert Hall Brussels, a former Art Deco cinema.

The festival brings together a mix of established and emerging artists from around the globe. The KFDA also features the Free School once again this year, a temporary school dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and artistic practices.

Last year’s edition set a record with 35,118 tickets sold. According to the organisers, ticket sales have started strongly this year. While several events are already sold out, there are still limited tickets available for a range of performances.
