A 58-year-old cyclist was critically injured in a collision with a car on Friday morning in Ghent.
The accident occurred at around 06:30 at the Sint-Annaplein in Ghent. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances, but the cyclist collided with a car driven by a 24-year-old French national.
The driver tested positive for alcohol but negative for drugs. He has been detained and awaits further questioning.
The cyclist was rushed to UZ Gent hospital in a critical condition. So far, no traffic expert has been appointed to examine the incident further.
