The municipality of Anderlecht in Brussels won the Prix de l’Entreprise CAP48 2025 on Tuesday evening for its efforts in including individuals with disabilities.

CAP48 is an RTBF-founded Belgian initiative spanning French and German speaking communities across the country. It encourages the creation of a more inclusive and comfortable society for people with disabilities and their families.

Founded in 1975, the organisation highlights the values of solidarity, inclusion, transparency, and innovation, noting that people with disabilities account for over 15% of the EU's population.

The award follows Anderlecht's consistently inclusive and integrative projects as part of their strategic communal plan under Councillor for Social Affairs Fabienne Miroir and supported by Mayor Fabrice Cumps. With a specialised Disability Unit was formed and a 'handistreaming' or disability mainstreaming referent was hired in 2019.

Miroir expressed the municipality's goal to improve the lives of people with disabilities in the neighbourhood through the development of a cross-functional policy covering a wide range of areas, noting that it is "essential to take stock of the situation on the ground," and evaluate from there.

Councillor for Human Resources Bieke Comer explains that the progression is "not only a matter of social justice, but also of human and professional wealth that strengthens our administration as a whole."

The policy aims to improve the daily living situations and appreciate the talents of those struggling with disabilities, making shifts in accessibility through policy and effective implementation.

The project has been over five years in action and has seen an array of changes within Anderlecht - namely the work of the Anderlecht Assisted Living Service, a free home care service guiding those who live with intellectual disabilities in their daily lives.

Additionally, other CAP48 prizes were awarded to Brasserie Dubuisson, Skechers and Rainbowtop.
