Production equipment from Tupperware Belgium is being auctioned as part of its liquidation to settle debts owed to over 200 employees.

In the initial phase of the public auction, around 20 injection moulding machines are being sold. According to the liquidator, these machines are professional-grade, well-maintained, but somewhat outdated. They are being sold through the VH Auctions platform, which specialises in industrial auctions, and have attracted interest from international buyers.

Future auction phases will include forklifts, storage infrastructure, and other movable equipment.

The proceeds from these auctions will be used to pay off debts to employees and other creditors. Although employees have already submitted claims, the exact total amount is still unknown. Resolving such matters typically takes several months.

The Tupperware property in Aalst remains unsold for now, but discussions with potential buyers are ongoing, though the liquidator did not provide specifics. While a restart of activities at the site is currently not planned, it has not been ruled out.

The Aalst factory was Tupperware's first outside the United States and a key production location within its European network for many years.

The current closure represents the end of local industrial operations as both machinery and the last remnants of such activity are phased out.

The closure affects approximately 270 workers, including 220 labourers and 45 clerical staff. Many have long tenures at the company, averaging over 20 years, which significantly increases the costs associated with their redundancy.
