In the United Kingdom, three Iranian nationals have been charged with espionage on behalf of the regime in Tehran, the London police announced on Saturday.
The investigation was conducted by the counter-terrorism unit of the London police. Dominic Murphy, the unit’s commander, emphasised in a statement that the charges against the three Iranians are “particularly serious” and described the case as a “highly complex investigation that is rapidly evolving.”
The accused men, aged between 39 and 55, were arrested on 3 May due to behaviour that appeared linked to the Iranian intelligence service. They face charges of espionage and reconnaissance activities intending to commit serious violence against someone in the UK. The three are scheduled to appear in a London court on Saturday.
A fourth man, aged 31, was also arrested on 9 May as part of the investigation but was released without charge on Thursday.
