De Lijn, Flemish public transport agency, anticipates that, on Tuesday during the public services strike, an average of 63% of buses and trams will operate according to its announcement on Saturday afternoon.
In the province of Antwerp, 54% of the buses and trams are expected to run. East Flanders will see approximately 77% operational, and West Flanders 67%. De Lijn predicts that 64% of the trams and buses will run in Flemish Brabant and 63% in Limburg.
Within Antwerp city itself, only 34% of the trams are expected to operate, while in Ghent, it will be 52%. For the coastal tram, De Lijn estimates a 50% operational rate.
The transport company highlights that the stop and line pages on its website and app will only display services operating on Tuesday, 20th May. Services not running will not appear, ensuring the most up-to-date information is available.
The union is staging another protest on Tuesday, 20th May against the De Wever government’s reform plans, specifically within the public services at the initiative of the socialist civil servants’ union ACOD. According to the union, the savings measures heavily impact the public sector, with plans leading to slower salary indexing and altered pension calculations, meaning civil servants will eventually work longer for less pension.
