Due to a national strike in the public sector, there will be a reduced train service from Monday 19th May at 22:00 until Tuesday 20th May, as reported by NMBS on Sunday.
NMBS and Infrabel have developed an alternative train schedule based on staff availability. On Tuesday 20th May, three out of five InterCity trains will operate, alongside one in two local and suburban ‘S’ trains. However, there will be fewer ‘P’ trains, which usually bolster services during peak hours.
Travellers are advised by NMBS to prepare their journeys well and to check the online travel planner regularly via the app or website. The alternative train schedule will be available from Monday morning, and further information can be found on the NMBS website.
The unions are staging a protest on Tuesday 20th May against the reform plans of the government led by De Wever, driven by the socialist civil servants’ union ACOD. According to the union, the government’s austerity measures will particularly impact the public sector, leading to slower wage indexation and changes to pension calculations, ultimately requiring civil servants to work longer for less pension.
