The European fast-charging network Powerdot has announced a €40 million investment to enhance electric vehicle infrastructure in Belgium, aiming to deploy several hundred rapid-charging points by 2026.

Powerdot plans to install half of its new facilities in Wallonia and the other half in Flanders.

In the coming months, 20 stations, comprising nearly 150 charging points, will be established in Belgium, adding to its existing 14 stations. The €40 million will be invested alongside partner retailers, such as Intermarché, Ibis Hotel, and Delhaize.

The network aims to increase the number of charging points from 51 in 2024 to 1,000 by 2026, supported by funding from a banking consortium including ABN Amro, BNP Paribas, ING, MUFG Bank, Santander, and Société Générale. Powerdot aspires to become one of the top three charging networks in Belgium, targeting 2,000 charging points by 2028.

According to the latest figures from EV Belgium, the country has over 83,000 AC (alternating current) charging points, around 4,400 DC (direct current) charging points, and more than 308,000 electric vehicles.
