A house fire in Rue du Relais, Ixelles, on Monday afternoon left two residents with minor injuries, according to the Brussels Fire Brigade.
Emergency services were alerted to the fire at around 14:15. Upon arrival, they found the blaze on the second of three floors.
"There was significant smoke on the top two floors, and evacuation was in progress when we arrived," said fire brigade spokesperson Walter Derieuw.

"We extinguished the fire using ladder trucks, attacking from the rear facade and internally. We managed to protect the roof and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent roofs."
One resident sustained minor burns, and another suffered smoke inhalation. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
"The upper floors suffered fire damage, while the lower floors faced water damage," continued Derieuw.
"The house is uninhabitable. Six residents are being supported by police and community services. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear."
