The Second 'Nature Gardens Weekend' event will take place on Saturday, 31 May, and Sunday, 1 June, in Brussels and Wallonia, the Natagora conservation group announced on Monday.
The theme of this year's edition of the Weekend will be agriculture, a strong, committed choice as agricultural practices are central to environmental, climate, and social challenges, according to Natagora. As in the previous edition, the public will have free access to visit dozens of private gardens and engage with enthusiasts, showing that individuals can actively contribute to nature preservation.
The organisation notes that “9% of Belgium’s land consists of residential areas, and all these gardens play a crucial role in forming an ecological network.”
Several gardens will offer open-house visits without registration, while others will provide guided tours, with some requiring registration and others not.
In addition to the visits, around ten activities aimed at fostering critical analysis and encouraging action to advance biodiversity will be organised by volunteers.
“The nature garden allows individuals to help Natagora create a truly ecological network,” says Natagora’s Events Coordinator, Serge Tiquet. “Building collaborations between volunteers and garden owners moves us closer to our goals.”
