According to the 24th holiday barometer by Europ Assistance, released on Monday, nearly three-quarters of Belgians intend to go on holiday during the summer of 2025. France, Spain, and Italy are the most favoured destinations among Belgian holidaymakers.
The barometer defines "holidays" as a period of more than four consecutive nights spent away from home, excluding professional reasons, between June and September 2025.
Out of 1,000 Belgians surveyed, 73% plan to go on holiday this summer. About 45% intend to travel once during this period, while 28% expect to go multiple times.
On average, Belgians are planning holidays lasting 1.8 weeks. Short trips are on the rise compared to last year; 45% of those surveyed intend to spend a week or less away this year.
July is the most popular month for Belgian tourists, with 24% choosing to travel then. September is a close second at 22%, followed by August at 20% and June at 17%.
France remains the top holiday destination for Belgians this summer, chosen by 22%, followed by Spain at 14% and Italy at 7%. These countries, along with the rest of Europe, have lost some favour to more distant destinations. Nevertheless, nearly 15% of holidaymakers plan to travel within Belgium itself.
Among those not planning to go on vacation, financial concerns are the main obstacle for 39%. The desire to save money or a preference for travelling at another time of the year also influence their decisions.
