The Liège Criminal Court on Wednesday handed a man from Wanze, Liège Province, a four-year prison sentence - suspended for the time remaining after his preventive detention - for prostituting four women, one of them a minor, in 2021.

The man also received a fine of €32,000, half of it suspended.

The offences, reported by the mother of one of the four women, occurred at the home of the defendant, who now resides in the Ciney area. Between 1 February 2021 and 3 July 2021, when the offences were committed, he had been living in Wanze, where he was arrested.

The defendant had agreed, at different times, to accommodatethe four victims, who were in vulnerable situations due to homelessness, drug addiction or destitution.

Advertisements for prostitution were published on Quartier Rouge and the victims prostituted themselves in a room set up at the defendant’s home. Some of them allegedly received up to seven clients a day, an activity generated and supervised by the defendant.

This went on for five months, including during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The court upheld all the charges.
