Yves Rotty, the Chief of Police in Bruges, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening at the age of 56, according to the local police department.

Rotty was found at his home in Bruges on Wednesday evening and died from medical causes.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to his daughter, family, friends, and all colleagues during this sudden loss,” said police spokesperson Lien Depoorter.

The mayor of Bruges, Dirk De fauw, expressed his shock at the news.

“Yves served as Chief of Police for nearly two years. This role was his dream, his life,” he stated. “I could rely on Yves day and night. He was not a man of many words but was a very compassionate leader with whom I had an excellent working relationship.”
