Belgium's Princess Astrid and her husband, Prince Lorenz, will undertake an official visit to Japan from 5 to 11 June, including a tour of the Osaka World Expo.

Princess Astrid will be representing her brother, King Philippe.

The royal couple is expected in Osaka on 9 June to explore the Belgian and Japanese pavilions at the World Expo. They will also join an event organised by the Belgian Food Industry Federation (Fevia).

On 10 June, they will be received at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo by Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. Their schedule also includes a meeting with Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko.

On 8 June, Astrid and Lorenz will visit Nagasaki, the city devastated by the second US atomic bomb in 1945. They will tour the Atomic Bomb Museum, the Peace Park, and the 26 Martyrs Monument, laying a wreath at the Peace Statue in memory of the victims of the nuclear weapon unleashed 80 years ago.

Additional official engagements held at the Belgian Embassy, involving Belgian and Japanese business leaders and dignitaries, will enrich the agenda of the royal couple's week-long visit.
