Brussels-West police announced on Friday that they conducted a major anti-drug operation in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on 27 May, in collaboration with the STIB transport utility and the railway police.

The initiative was aimed at enhancing safety in public transport by targeting drug use and sales.

The operation focused on several metro, tram, and train lines and stations. Enhanced checks were carried out with two specialised sniffer dogs from Luxembourg, enabling more effective detection of illicit substances.

In total, 25 citations for drug use were issued to individuals caught on the spot, while a dealer in synthetic drugs was arrested.

Police seized GHB, amphetamines, ecstasy, and hallucinogenic mushrooms from the dealer, with an estimated value of several thousand euros.

This operation was part of a broader effort to crack down on drug trafficking in Brussels. The Brussels-West area, like other parts of the capital, has intensified its actions in recent months, partly in response to increased shootings linked to rival drug networks.

Several targeted operations have been carried out in sensitive neighbourhoods and busy transit areas.
