A suspect has been arrested in connection with the stabbing incident on 16 May in the Sonian Forest, Uccle, which left a cyclist seriously injured.

The news was first reported by La Dernière Heure and has been now confirmed by the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office.

"A person has been charged with attempted murder and placed under arrest warrant," stated spokesperson Martin François. "In the interest of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office will not provide further comments."

A witness was walking in the Sonian Forest near the monument commemorating the victims of the 2016 attacks when they saw a group assisting a cyclist.

"The victim claimed that a masked person had stabbed him shortly before," the witness reported on social media.

The cyclist sustained ten stab wounds and was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit, though he is not in life-threatening condition, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The exact circumstances and motive for the attack are still unclear. It is not yet known whether it was a random or targeted attack.
